Almost 12 years ago, we set out to make complex security solutions easy to use. Our mission was for people to benefit from the advantages of cloud technologies, whilst keeping control of their data. And we are delighted that we met these goals.
But now we are excited to share that we are set to begin a new chapter with Dropbox, Inc.
Dropbox is acquiring our IP technology and our new mission will be to embed it natively into the Dropbox product, bringing end-to-end, zero-knowledge encryption to millions business of customers around the world. By providing our technology and deep-expertise to a global tech company like Dropbox, we’ll be able to better scale our security capabilities through Dropbox’s global platform and provide an elevated encryption experience for users. This will ensure even more people are able to focus on the work that matters, knowing that their content is even more safe and secure.
We believe that the combination of our leading encryption capabilities and Dropbox’s easy to use product, with Dropbox’s already robust security features, will help even more customers protect their most sensitive information. As we’ve been a Premium Technology Partner of Dropbox for many years now, we know that we have entered a trustful relationship and we are looking forward to the road ahead.
What does this mean for our users and customers?
First of all: All our existing users and customers will remain with the German Secomba GmbH with the same shareholders as during the past 10 years. No contracts, customer data or keys will migrate to Dropbox, all data will remain in our German data centers.
While we’ve sold several key technology assets to Dropbox, we will continue to service our existing users and customers pursuant to the terms of their existing contracts. However, as of today, we will not allow the creation of new accounts or purchases of any new licenses.
If you’re an existing customer, you can keep using Boxcryptor as you do today, and we’ll be in touch with more details as we join forces with Dropbox. If you’re new here and would like to stay up to date on Dropbox’s progress, join the

Thanks
We want to personally thank everyone who has supported us through the years, most notably our team who was with us along our journey. A lot of them for many, many years, and each and every one of them has done their part to make Boxcryptor a success. Special thanks also to our investors Jan, Markus und Gert from Agile Partners GmbH who believed and trusted in us as entrepreneurs and in our vision almost since the very beginning.
Thanks to our users and customers worldwide for continuously sharing their feedback and needs with us for over a decade. Thanks for using our product, for challenging us and for helping us and our company grow.
We were only able to get through this process with our advisors behind us: Stephens, Inc. as M&A advisors, and the team of Osborne & Clarke and Montgomery Pacific LLP on the legal side.
And last but not least thanks to our families who have been in our corner through our entrepreneurial journey.
Andrea and Robert
